Information on audition pieces coming soon!

Scales are to be performed from memory, played with separate bows, quarter note = 88-92, start and stop on the tonic, no ornamentation, and no repetition of the tonic between octaves. Students will self-select the first scale and judges will assign the second. Scales include major and relative minor up to to four flats and sharps. VLN and CEL scale range is three octaves. VLA range is 3 octaves for  C, D, Eb, E, F, and G major, and c, c#, d, e, f, f#, and g minor.  (The scales that would start on the G-string will not be required for viola auditions.)  STB range is one octave for C, D, Eb, and two octaves otherwise.

For the audition solo piece, students may use their own fingerings, bowings and edition. There is an orchestral excerpt from the anticipated All-State concert repertoire posted on-line for students to prepare; all markings of the excerpt must be followed.
